New community report, led by STAR Support in partnership with Stonewall Housing and The Outside Project
Co-designed by LGBTIQ+ survivors accessing STAR Support/The Outside Project services, our new community report explores survivor perspectives of recovery and their preferences around support. Centring survivor voices throughout, the report offers nuanced reflections on the approaches and services needed to support LGBTIQ+ survivors of domestic abuse.
Our findings encourage services to:
-
Support LGBTIQ+ survivors to recognise and understand domestic abuse in LGBTIQ+ contexts
-
Centre community within domestic abuse recovery
-
Acknowledge how social realities shaped by race, class and socio-economic status influence journeys toward recovery
-
Ensure recovery programmes reflect intersectional experiences and identities
-
Be responsive to how shifting social and political climates shape recovery - such as the impact of anti-trans legislation on survivors well-being
-
Take a holistic approach which acknowledges the body
Thank you to all the survivors who participated in and shaped this project — we would not and could not do this work without lived-experience voices. We also thank the practitioners and organisation leads across the LGBTIQ+ sector, many of whom bring both professional expertise and lived experience, for their generous insights and time.
