Star Refuge

Star Refuge is our new accommodation-based service for LGBTIQ+ survivors of domestic abuse. This is the first by-and-for* project of its kind in the UK.

Star Refuge provides a safe place to stay and specialist support for LGBTIQ+ people experiencing domestic abuse. Each resident is given time for rest and recovery, a co-developed support plan, access to community support groups and therapeutic activities.

Those living in Star Refuge will receive:

  • Safe accommodation, which includes a private living space and access to communal areas

  • Financial advice and support

  • The opportunity to make new social connections within the LGBTIQ+ community, take part in group activities and build an accepting support system.

  • Mentoring and coaching

  • The opportunity to develop life skills

  • Emotional and wellbeing support

  • Support with moving on from our accommodation scheme

1. Star Support is a by-and-for service. This means that our services are founded by LGBTIQ+ people with lived experience of domestic violence and homelessness. They are delivered by LGBTIQ+ people, for LGBTIQ+ people.
